my motorcycle has very high compression with 42000 miles on it whats going on?

my 1999 honda cbr f4 was tested by a mechanic years back who said the compression is really good. It does not make sense though because the bike is pretty old. what could cause abnormally high compression?

If you have compression test that indicates 20 pounds more than factory standard on stock pistons- first thing to look at is carbon build up on top of piston and inside head surface. Decarbonize is maintenance term for removing head and scraping off carbon buildup. Hot running engines -especially aircooled – are subject to this, is /was normal schedule for older 2 strokes and longer interval for 4 stroke engines. Old Harleys subject to this a lot. (<--tease). *** Others have noted possible reasons for decoke needed--- but just to clarify- what was the recent compression reading and what is factory specs? As noted - you may have engine below peak factory specs but within 90/95% of peak-- this would be very good for mileage of engine, as mechanic noted 'really good', which happens when riders take care of oil changes, filter changes, treat engines right. If you haven't been treating engine right-shame on you, go change your oil and filters. (more teasing). A symptom of possible carboned head/piston area is dieselling when you turn off ignition, backfiring, pinging as in preignition. this indicates a hot spot- usually a carbon deposit- in cylinder igniting fuel mix without spark plug spark***.
