Civil engineers… Facts…?
According to the Projections data from the National Employment Matrix
The employment for 2006 for civil engineers was 256,000
and the projection for 2016 is 302,000. Though does this mean that there’s a big demand for civil engineers, and if is so, why do civil engineers get payed less than other engineers in different fields????

well , we get paid less , because there is a plenty of civil eng. allover the world.
besides it’s easier for any eng. college or institute to have a CE dept. it doesn’t cost much , besided it’s a very ancient science .
about the demand , make sure it’s huge & it’ll remain huge . It’s like networking , u can’t live w/o a network admin.
& so does any city or municipality can’t go w/o CE.
But from my short experience , i c that demand of CE is like any demand curve or like life itself follow the sinusoidal behaviour , sometime it’s up & other it’s down , globaly it’s the times of Elect. engineers & longer before it was the mech. eng. times , but our time as CE is coming somewhen for sure.
anyway , one of the good reasons that made me join the CE dept. is the diversity , it gave me alot of choices…..u can work in any of them usually , unless the specialization pattern @ your college is strict.
@ 1st i thought i’d be a structural or concrete designer , but now , i’m almost having a major as an airport builder , i got more interested in transportation studies, & i’m working on Hwy & airports graduation project currently.
Finally (it seems i’m writing an essay ), go ahead with becoming a civil eng. , if only u like the field & this is the most important point.
